Conditions We Treat

Sciatica
Sciatica occurs when there is pressure on or damage to the sciatic nerve. It is a common symptom. It is also one that you may experience generally as a result of underlying conditions within the musculoskeletal system. The large sciatic nerve may be compressed, irritated or inflamed leading to an array of discomfort. The pain typically originates deep into the buttock and travels down the leg. Some causes of sciatica may include Piriformis syndrome, bulging or herniated discs, bone spurs and misalignment of lumbar discs. Many people who suffer from sciatica indicate it is a chronic and debilitating condition. It is a serious condition that can stand in the way of routine tasks. But no longer should walking, driving, or simply sitting down cause pain or distress.

Radiculopathy
Radiculopathy is a condition often referred to as a pinched nerve. It is the result of compressed or damaged nerves within the spine. Symptoms may include but not limited to; tingling sensations along the spinal cord, in the shoulders, or hands. Generally, these are accompanied with numbness, pain or discomfort, and muscle weakness. When a nerve becomes compressed or pinched then flare ups may occur. These can be due to causes such as, Disc degeneration, overuse or muscle strain, inflammation, bone spurs and disc herniation.

Disc Herniation
A herniated disc occurs when your spinal or cervical disc is damaged. Subsequently, the inner jelly-like material (nucleus pulposus) seeps through the fibrous outer shell. It is this seepage that places pressure onto the nerve. Symptoms typically include numbness, stiffened and tight muscles around the affected area. The level of pain may vary depending on the severity of the herniation and various other factors. Disc herniations are generally caused by a degenerative process overtime rather than a single event. Flare ups can occur at any time. However, it is possible that the activity which caused the flare up to occur is a damaging pattern. It may well be the same mechanism that began the degenerative process leading to the actual disc herniation overtime.

Musculoskeletal Tension
Musculoskeletal tension may result in the stiffening or knotting of the muscles and therefore cause acute or chronic pain- if not addressed and left untreated. A combination of contributing factors that may cause musculoskeletal tension include trauma to the area, poor posture, repetitive and overused body movements. Tension can also be caused by physiological disorders such as PTSD, depression, stress and anxiety.

Nerve Pain
Neuralgia or neuropathic pain may be caused by trauma affecting your muscles, organs and central nervous system. Symptoms from nerve pain can often be mistaken or overlap with muscle pain. Nerve pain often can be spontaneous or persistent and relentless. It feels like chronic burning, prickling or tingling sensations. It is also sometimes accompanied by numbness in a specific body part. While nerve pain isn’t usually dangerous it can have a significantly negative impact on your quality of life.

WHY PATIENTS CHOOSE US
Kristina CapraJuly 30, 2024 Dr. Helmandi is incredible! The staff is very kind, efficient, patient and intentional with their services. I feel incredibly blessed to see Dr. Helmandi for my rode of back and hip healing. I hope whoever needs this type of physical therapy/ healing services, to take my recommendation to see her. Thank you for all this staff does! Sincerely, Kristina Brett MillerJuly 27, 2024 If I could leave 6 stars I would Rose MargretJuly 24, 2024 Such welcoming and kind staff! I truly feel like they all care about your well being and they are so helpful and I can definitely tell a difference in my neck and back pain since I’ve starting coming regularly! Already have been recommending this place to my besties Mathew SandersJuly 23, 2024 I've been coming here for about 2 months now initially to try chiropractor adjustment, and ended up also seeing a physiotherapist. I came due to chronic pain in foot and leg that I had been tolerating for years but had got to the point of being painful to walk, and would even wake me up during the night. I'd talked with my PCP, and seen a podiatrist and also a physiotherapist and none of them had been able to help me. I had seen a chiropractor for some neck issues ~15 years ago and from that experience I found it was a coin flip if they helped, sometimes I would leave an adjustment feeling better, and sometimes worse. This office has been a totally different experience. Prior to the adjustment they spend time making sure that the area is relaxed as possible (using massage etc) before making the adjustment. As I've been figuring out my schedule I've seen two people here for chiropractor adjustment and two people for physiotherapy and all four have been equally amazing. What I appreciate about this office is the focus on finding and treating the root cause of pain, and not just treating the surface symptoms. When I come in for a session they can quickly identify the problem areas, and have specific techniques to help target those areas. I've also been surprised to learn how connected muscles and ligaments in the body are. I can have pain in one area, and focusing on a different area I can feel the muscles relax. I also appreciate that when something isn't working, they work to figure out alternatives that will work for your specific situation. After just a 30 minute session I feel like I've had a good workout and feel like I'm standing taller and stronger. I've only been coming for a short time, but already my pain is GREATLY reduced and I feel optimistic about future improvements. The office is tidy organized and nicely decorated, the admin staff are also great (I often get welcomed by name when I come in) and they are flexible for helping out with changes in schedule etc. This office is actually out of network for my insurance, but my copay works out about the same as the in-network PT I saw a couple years ago. Absolutely nothing to fault, a great 5/5 practice here! Amber Rose SmithJuly 20, 2024 So amazing, saw me last minute prior to leaving for travels and took such good care of me. Everyones so nice! Victoria ParisiJuly 17, 2024 I had a wonderful experience with Active Physical Therapy and Chiropractic Group. From the moment I walked in, I felt warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. The quality of care I received for my physical therapy was exceptional. The therapists were not only knowledgeable and attentive but also truly cared about my recovery. I recommend them to all my friends and family that are in need of physical therapy and/or chiropractic services! Ross DavidJuly 17, 2024 Very professional and well run! robyn heibergerJuly 9, 2024 Yinping is a miracle worker!!! She is so knowledgeable about the body and fixes your pain!!! Wanda PalmerJuly 9, 2024 i have found my appointments with Dr. Helmandi very helpful after multiple sessions. I appreciate her advice and help with improving my back and neck pains and she is very pleasant to work with and talk to. The office is clean and well furnished and everyone is very nice. My only note is that I generally don’t choose to leave google reviews unless I have something very specific to comment on, but was encouraged to do so; I generally prefer to wait until I’ve completed my visit(s) if providing feedback for a complete review. Overall I’ve had a good experience and plan to have future appointments. Thanks!
